Regional Brewer Calibration Inter-Comparisons
The XVIII Inter-Comparison of the Regional Brewer Calibration Center for Europe (RBCC-E) was held at El Arenosillo Atmospheric Sounding Station, Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA; Huelva, Spain) from 5 – 15 September 2023. MeteoSwiss and the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) programme of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) supported the inter-comparison.
Brewer inter-comparisons are held annually, alternating between Davos (Switzerland) and El Arenosillo (Huelva, Spain). Previous inter-comparisons in Switzerland were held at the Lichtklimatisches Observatorium (LKO) in Arosa.
The RBCC for Europe was established by the Izaña Atmospheric Research Centre (I-ARC) at Izaña Observatory (IZO, Canary Islands) in November 2003 within the GAW/WMO programme. IZO is managed by the “Agencia Estatal de Meteorología” (AEMET, Spain). RBCC-E maintains a triad of reference instruments. The Regional Primary Reference and Secondary Spectrophotometers (B#157 and B#183) and the Regional Travelling Reference Spectrophotometer (B#185) are all part of the triad. Each spectrophotometer is calibrated independently with the standard Langley method at IZO and since 2011 their calibration can be transferred.
