Universal Instrument Adapter

Radiation instruments are mounted on so-called solar trackers in order to conduct high-quality measurements. The Universal Instrument Adapter is an adapter mount, developed at the PMOD/WRC, which serves as an adjustable connection between the measurement instrument and the solar tracker.

Pointing deviations can result from manufacturing tolerances of the tracker as well as the measuring instrument. This means that there is a deviation between the theoretically ideal optical axis and the effective pointing of the instrument. This deviation can be compensated for by the UIA.

Modularity

The modular construction of the UIA allows the mounting of instruments with varying outer diameters. Adapters are currently available for both the PFR and PSR radiometers which have been developed and built by the PMOD/WRC. Customer specific UIAs can be manufactured to order.

The UIA was developed to fit onto an INTRA tracker (OWEL GmbH) as standard. However, compatibility with trackers from other manufacturers (Kipp & Zonen, EKO) is possible through use of an optionally available adapter-plate.

The adjustment range of the UIA is: azimuth = ±5°, elevation = ±5°
